Human capital in development accounting and other essays in economics

av Hannes Malmberg
Human Capital and Development Accounting Revisited studies the role of human capital in accounting for world income differences. It uses evidence from international trade data, and its results open up for a large role for human capital. Price Level Determination When Tax Payments Are Required in Money formalizes the idea that the price level can be determined by a requirement that taxes be paid in money. We show under which conditions a tax requirement in money determines the price level. Swedish Unemployment Dynamics proposes a new method for decomposing business cycle fluctuations in unemployment into fluctuations of underlying labor market flows. We apply the method to a new Swedish data set. Supply Chain Risk and the Pattern of Trade studies the relationship between supply chain risk and trade patterns. We characterize which industries that are sensitive to supply chain risk, and we show empirically that countries with reliable supply chains have a comparative advantage in these industries. Hannes Malmberg holds a BA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, and an MSc in Mathematical Statistics from Stockholm University. Doctoral Thesis in Economics at Stockholm University, Sweden
